Signups for Volunteer Registration for 2026 Parade of Lights
Route & Marshal Team
(4 Tasks)
Crowd Courtesy Helpers will assist spectators along the parade route by providing basic event information, helping families identify safe viewing areas, and politely reminding spectators to remain behind barricades and outside the active parade route. Volunteers will watch for unsafe situations and report concerns to parade leadership. This is not a security or enforcement position.

Crosswalk and Barricade Support Volunteers will be stationed at assigned crossings and barricade locations along the parade route. Volunteers will observe these areas, help communicate when a crossing is closed during active parade movement, and immediately report any barricade that has been moved, damaged, bypassed, or is missing. This is an observation and communication role. Volunteers do not direct traffic and may not move, open, close, or reposition official barricades unless specifically instructed by authorized parade or public-safety personnel.

Route Marshal Helpers will be stationed at assigned locations along the parade route. Volunteers will observe parade movement, help entries follow approved parade instructions, watch for stopped or disabled entries, and report safety concerns or route problems to the Route and Marshal Team Director or Parade Command. This is a volunteer support position. Route Marshal Helpers do not direct public traffic, perform enforcement duties, change the parade lineup, or replace police, security, or emergency personnel. Volunteers must remain at their assigned location until officially released.

Downtown Business Outreach Team
(4 Tasks)
Business Outreach & Partnerships Team - Support the Downtown Business Outreach Director by connecting with local businesses and community partners. Volunteers will help make phone calls, send emails, research potential sponsors and partners, follow up with business contacts, and help build connections that support the Parade of Lights. This is a planning and outreach position and is best suited for volunteers who are comfortable communicating professionally with businesses, following up on assigned contacts, and helping develop community partnerships.

Yard Sign Deployment Team - Help promote the McKinney Rotary Christmas Parade of Lights by distributing parade yard signs in designated neighborhoods. Volunteers will walk assigned areas, speak with residents, and ask if they would be willing to display a parade yard sign. Signs may only be placed with the resident or property owner's permission. The address of each approved sign location must be recorded so signs can be collected after the parade. This volunteer position involves walking, community interaction, carrying yard signs, and helping spread the word about the Parade of Lights.

Parade Route Communication Helpers - Help us make sure Downtown McKinney businesses are prepared for the Parade of Lights. Volunteers will walk the parade route and surrounding downtown areas to personally distribute important parade route and event information to local businesses. This assignment will take place November 16–20, December 1, and December 5, 2026. Please register only if you are able to walk long distances and can commit to completing your assigned area. This is an important responsibility, as every designated business must receive the parade information before the event. Volunteers will be provided with the flyers/information and the area they are responsible for covering.

Radio Control - Communications
(1 Task)
Radio Control & Director Communications- Radio Control & Communications serves as the central communication link between Parade Leadership, Command Center, and all operational team directors. This team maintains awareness of who is responsible for each area, receives and routes radio communications, tracks operational issues, and makes sure information reaches the correct director quickly. They do not independently change parade plans or make public-safety decisions; their responsibility is to keep communication organized, accurate, and moving.
